NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School girls’ soccer head coach Jimmy Allgood said his players gave maximum effort in spurts against No. 2-ranked Laurel Christian School Monday.

Despite a 10-0 shutout, Allgood said he was proud of his team and the strides they made. Allgood said his team must get their momentum going early and consistently if they want to be successful.

“I was very proud of about 15 minutes worth of soccer after half time,” Allgood said. “My girls tend to allow several goals to get scored on them, then they decide to kick it into overdrive, and by that time, the game is possibly out of reach.

“Our girls responded after going down 4-0 at halftime. The next 20 minutes they played were as hard of soccer they could play against the foot skills, passing and trapping skills of a team that probably have been playing since they were in diapers.”

The second half wasn’t the only time Allgood said he saw some positive things from his Lady Rebels.

“About the first 10 minutes, our girls played a very good match against a very aggressive state championship contender,” he said.

Katie Valentine scored two of Laurel Christian’s four goals in the first half, along with Marcie Napier and Darby Fisher.

In the second half, Napier scored three more goals and Fisher added two while Bianca Suarez added one goal to extend the Lady Lions’ lead o 10-0 before the end Allgood said Laurel’s hot shooting and overall skills were almost too much to handle.

“Many of their shots were from 25 to 30 yards out, and it’s hard to defend when you have those type of foot skills,” he said. “They’re ability to pass and trap is not only a beautiful sight to see, but it’s hard to defend for many teams.”

The Lady Rebels return to the field against Central Hinds at 4 p.m. today, and Allgood said Monday’s game showed improvement as they prepare to get a win against the Lady Cougars.

“I’m proud of the girls for not quitting,” he said. “They showed several times of controlling the ball, they attacked and played aggressive against a quality team, and I’ll take that as a coach.”
