Woods named new city attorney in Mobile, Ala.

MOBILE, Ala. — Natchez native Ricardo A. Woods has been selected by Mobile Mayor-Elect Sandy Stimpson to serve as city attorney.

Woods will start in the position Nov. 4. In this position, Woods will provide legal counsel on critical issues that impact the City of Mobile.

“I am honored to serve the mayor and the great City of Mobile in this capacity,” Woods said. “My goal is to provide the most efficient and effective legal counsel to Mayor Stimpson to ensure continued growth for the families and businesses who count on the city government to make Mobile the best it can be.”

Woods works at Burr & Forman LLP and is a member of the Tort Trial & Insurance and Practice Group where he has more than 10 years of experience representing local and national clients with a number of product liability and insurance litigation matters.

In 2009, Woods was selected by Mobile Bay magazine as a “40 Under Forty” honoree, and in 2010, was selected by Alabama Super Lawyers as an Alabama “Rising Star.”

Woods is the former president of 100 Black Men of Greater Mobile Inc. and the current president of the Vernon Z. Crawford Bay Area Bar Association. He is an active member of the American, Alabama, Mississippi and Mobile Bar Associations and the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association. Woods is also a member of the Defense Research Institute.

Woods received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and his law degree from Samford University Cumberland School of Law.

He is a 1996 Natchez High School graduate and the son of Freddie Woods and the late Tonya Woods.
