VIDALIA — Two men from south Louisiana were arrested, and law enforcement officials are searching for a third suspect after a Saturday morning shooting that sent a Ferriday man to the hospital.

Justin M. Smith, 20, 751 Myrtis St., New Iberia, and Darius D. Keys, 20, 1047 Carmen Road, St. Martinville, were both arrested on charges of three counts of attempted second degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, aggravated flight from an officer and resisting an officer.

Concordia Parish Chief Deputy David Hedrick said the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call at 7:21 a.m. Saturday about a shooting at 332 Earl Davis Road.

The caller reported three men had gone to the residence and entered a bedroom there where the 37-year-old male victim, his girlfriend and a baby were laying in a bed. The intruders allegedly shot the male victim in the leg there before he fled outside the residence, and he was reportedly shot three other times, Hedrick said.

The woman and child were not injured in the shooting.

The attackers then reportedly went back into the residence and stole a television before leaving the area in a gold SUV. A CPSO deputy saw the vehicle on U.S. 84 west at approximately 7:26 a.m. and pursued the vehicle while other CPSO deputies laid out spike strips, which the suspects evaded, Hedrick said.

The gold SUV also evaded a second set of spike strips laid out by the Louisiana State Police, he said.

The pursuit continued onto Louisiana 565, where the driver of the vehicle braked suddenly, and the vehicle skidded into a ditch. Hedrick said two of the alleged perpetrators — Smith and Keys — were arrested on the scene, while a third fled to an unknown location.

Deputies know who the third suspect is and are actively searching for him, Hedrick said.

Smith and Keys were detained without bond Sunday evening.
