Mother, son reign over upcoming festivities

Nubian Social Aid & Pleasure Club’s third annual tableau (Mardi Gras) ball will be on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Natchez Convention Center.

The 2014 theme is “Only In N’awlins.” Tickets are $40 per person and include dinner, drinks and entertainment. Tables are also available. Entertainment will be provided by Burnell Taylor, 2013 American Idol finalist and the House of Cards Band. Tickets can be purchased from any Nubian SAPC member or by calling 601-597-8063 or 601-392-3344.

2014 King Jeffrey Lamar Jordan

Jeffrey Lamar Jordan is the son of Alexine Jordan, George and Barbara Jordan. He is the grandson of the late David Duncan of Natchez, and the Rev. and Mrs. Cicero Quinn Jr. of Natchez, Annie Mae Jordan of Poplarville and the late Fred Jordan. He is married to Kechia Taylor Jordan and resides in Brookhaven. They have three children, Devin, Angel and Riahnna. He is self-employed and attends Rhema Word Church in Brookhaven where he is a member of the choir, president of the men’s ministry and serves as trustee.

Jordan is also a member of Friendship Lodge No. 923, where he serves as Esteem Loyal Knight.

He enjoys traveling, baking, singing and spending time with his family and friends. His favorite scriptures are 1 Corinthians 13:13, “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity,” and Psalms 133:1-3, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.”

2014 Queen Alexine Jordan

Alexine Jordan is the oldest daughter of the Rev. Cicero Quinn Jr. and Eliza McQuarter Quinn and the late David Duncan of Natchez.

She currently resides in Brookhaven where she was an educator for 39 years at Mamie Martin Elementary School.

She is the mother of two, Jeffrey and Janelle, and the grandmother of five, Kia, Kobe, Riahnna, Kaleb and Angel.

She attends St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of the Rev. Joe Leavy and has been very active at St. Paul for decades in many capacities.

Alexine Jordan enjoys tutoring children at the after-school tutoring program she started after she retired. She is also a member of Friendship Temple No. 698, Daughters of Elks where she serves as vice daughter ruler. She also serves as a board member for the “O” Foundation. Her favorite scripture is Psalms 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

Chieftess Margaret January

Margaret January is the wife of Andrew January and they are the parents of Andrea Bonds and Marques January and the proud grandparents of Alexes, Cody, Tyler and Taylor.

She is the daughter of Viola Bennett and the late Walter Bennett. January attended Co-Lin Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi.

January is currently employed with Natchez-Adams School District. She is a member of United Baptist Church where she serves as secretary, Nubian founder and board member, Krewe of Mer founder and charter member, and a 1994 Leadership Natchez graduate. Her hobbies are spending time with her family, shopping and traveling.

Baroness Raven Hargrave

Raven Lashay Hargrave is the daughter of Theresa Hargrave and the late Robert Hargrave Sr.

She is also the aunt of twins Mia Iman Banks and Maya Imena Banks.  Raven graduated from Wilkinson County High School in 2010 and attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

She is now attending Alcorn State University majoring in elementary education. She volunteers at Finch Elementary School and does community work at local assisting living facilities. She enjoys drawing collages, and pencil art. Raven participates with Second to None Cancer Awareness program and she is a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

Countess Adrell Wright

Adrell Wright is married to Clifford Wright and she is the mother of LaTonya Terrell, Lakishia Nikki Ransom, Lakishia Foster, Naquithia Leake, Clifford Wright Jr., DaTarrius Matthews and Cameron Wright. She is employed at AJFC Thompson Head Start in the dietary department. She is the owner of Punkin Pie Catering Services.

Wright is affiliated with the Baptist faith, a 1984 graduate of North Natchez Adams High School, 2009 graduate of The University of North Dakota and is a certified dietary manager.

Her hobbies are spending time with family, cooking, shopping, helping others who can’t help themselves, laughing and joking.

Her philosophy of life is, “Always extend a hand out to others, because you never know when it’s your time,” and “Always listen for that low and quiet voice.”

Grand Duchess Rosa Demby

Rosa Demby is the wife of Mr. Melvin Demby. She has two sons, Dax Winston and Courtney Winston; three grandchildren Tatyana, Kyla and Courtney Jr.

Demby is a retired educator of 44 years. Currently she is employed by LaSalle Community Action Association Inc. as head start director, and she is the owner, operator and designer of The Wedding Mart in Natchez.

She is a graduate of Alcorn State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and master’s degree in guidance education. She is also a graduate from Southern University, where she received a master’s degree in supervision and administration.

She is a member of Greater Mount Bethel Baptist Church.

She enjoys traveling, shopping, reading, singing and spending time with family and friends.

Her motto is: “If I can help someone as I pass this way, then my living shall not be in vain.”

Lady Lesia Montgomery

Montgomery is the married mother of four. She is married to Ronald Montgomery, her children are Ronald Montgomery Jr., April Montgomery, Amanda Montgomery and Liron Montgomery.

She is a graduate of both Southern University and Alcorn State University. She is employed as a guidance counselor in the Wilkinson County School District.

She is a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church and belongs to several organizations: Heroin’s of Jericho, Eastern Stars, Nubian, Second to None and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

She enjoys meeting new people and traveling. She feels that together everyone achieves more and you only live once, enjoy it.

The club will also introduce: junior dukes — Henry Mitchell and Sidney Davis and maids — Jerneisia McGee and Diamond Caston.
