The icy weather that passed through the Miss-Lou last week didn’t stop residents from doing great things in the community.

Before we prepare for the week ahead, let’s take a moment to look back at some of the highlights:

• Natchez residents are asking others to donate clothes, shoes, toiletries and other items to donate to the family of Larry Williams, who was seriously burned in a house fire. Collections are being taken at Frazier Elementary School before being dropped off with the family. We ask residents to keep the family in their prayers and donate any items, if possible.
• Vidalia Cemetery Association President Renard Chatman isn’t one to toot his own horn, but his fellow volunteers acknowledge Chatman is the reason the cemetery is still flourishing. Chatman’s daughter is buried there, but the volunteer treats all graves as if they were family. We thank Chatman for giving his time to the cemetery.
• St. Mary Basilica will host a 45-minute program intended to help those recovering from grief. The program is part of the church’s grief and loss group, which is open to people who have suffered any kind of loss. We hope those suffering reach out to the group for support.
• Cathedral graduate and Copiah-Lincoln Community College student Shannon Mire became a face for the school when she was selected as a Trailblazer at the college’s Wesson campus. The hospitality group gives tours around campus and helps with other activities. We congratulate Mire on being selected.
