NATCHEZ — For the past 10 years, Roxie resident Brody Cole has been making himself at home in Rebel territory at Adams County Christian School.

Cole, a sophomore, is an active student-athlete who competes in tennis, track and basketball and still manages to maintain a 3.5 GPA.

Rebel head basketball coach Richy Spears said Cole is one of the most focused players on his team, and it carries over into the classroom.

“He’s a very focused player,” Spears said. “He does anything he can to get better because basketball is his first love.”

The point guard/shooting guard works hard to secure his future, though he said he isn’t quite sure what his future holds yet.

“It’s kind of far away (to think about right now),” Brody said. “I don’t know what college I want to go to or what exactly I want to do yet.”

Right now, Cole is just enjoying his high school career, and Spears said Cole is a great contributor to the basketball team.

“He’s just a pleasure; he’s very coachable and well mannered,” Spears said. “He plays hard and does whatever you ask him to do. He loves the game, that’s the biggest thing. He gives it everything he’s got.”

But thankfully for Cole, he doesn’t have to put nearly as much time in toward his studies. Cole said getting good grades in school comes easy for him.

“I study the night before for about two hours and on my ride to school since I live far (Roxie),” he said. “I usually get (the material) really quickly. But I like biology because it is difficult to understand, and I like a challenge.”

Though Cole may be unsure of his future plans, Spears said he could see Cole playing ball on the next level if he works hard enough for it.

“I’m sure he would want to go somewhere and pursue playing basketball,” Spears said. “He just needs to get a little bit more size on him, and I’m sure he’ll work on that.”

Cole said besides his size, he plans to work on other aspects of his game.

“I want to work on shooting the ball better,” he said. “I work with Coach sometimes, but I try to work on it at home, too.”

Cole and the Rebels are now in the meat of district play as they try to win a district championship. They defeated Central Private Wednesday, 62-23.
