NATCHEZ — The Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels won big for their seniors on Senior Night with a 57-35 win against Centreville Academy Monday night.

ACCS (21-4) head coach Melanie Hall said her staff and players were motivated to get the win for seniors Tory Laird, Rachel House and Maggie Ray.

Laird scored eight points while House put together a seven-point performance. Ray did not play because of a concussion.

Hall said though Ray didn’t play, she had a very big season.

“Maggie Ray wasn’t supposed to play this year because she has suffered from concussions before,” Hall said. “She chose to play even though she knew if she got one more concussion, that would be it for her. She is one of the most courageous people I know.”

Though the seniors put up significant points, Skylar Adams led the Lady Rebels with 12 points and Jordan Petty added nine points as nearly every Lady Rebel scored.

“This team loves their seniors,” Hall said. “They wanted to end their last home game on a high note for the seniors.”

Sydney Lyons led Centreville in scoring with 13 points, and two Lady Tigers, Braelon Bigner and Marti Ann Longmire, added six points each.

ACCS got off to a quick start when Adams scored the first bucket on a cut to the basket at the 7:37 mark. Centreville tied it 2-2 before Laird’s three-pointer at the top of the key gave ACCS a 5-2 lead that was never lost.

The Lady Rebels went into a full court man-to-man press that generated the majority of ACCS’ 19 steals throughout the course of the game.

Hall said defense played a big part in their success this season.

“They did see some good things. I had several players cut off the base line,” she said. “But as a coach, you’re always looking for them to get better.”

The Lady Rebels built up a double-digit lead on a blocked jumper by Adams that she turned into a breakaway lay up to give ACCS a 17-6 lead before heading into the second quarter ahead 19-6.

Though ACCS dropped out of the full-court pressure, the aggressiveness didn’t stop as they went up by more than 20 points thanks to a 9-0 run led by Laird’s steal and fly ball to Mackenzie Boyd out in the open court.

On Centreville’s next possession, the same play happened except it was Adams with the steal and pass to Laird for the open lay up.

The 9-0 run was capped off with a wide-open wing three-pointer by Anna McDaniel to give the Lady Rebels a 30-8 lead at the 5:19 mark. The half ended 34-14.

The Lady Rebels didn’t let up in the third quarter as they kept their margin of victory by 20-plus points on a corner three by House.

Centreville’s Lyons responded with a three pointer at the 4:45 mark to bring the score to 41-17. The Lady Tigers outscored ACCS 8-6 to end the third quarter an stayed neck and neck at 10 points a piece in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to bring the Tigers back into contention as they lost 57-35.

The Lady Rebels game against Prentiss Christian School has been postponed to 6 p.m. Friday as a result of inclement weather today.

Centreville boys 34

The Rebels cruised past the Centreville Tigers 64-34 on Senior Night as five seniors hit the floor for ACCS.

Seniors Ryan Strong had a team high of 11 points, Chris Guedon had eight points and Justin Allgood added seven points, while Dillon Galbreath scored four points,

Chris Collingsworth scored 12 points for Centreville, and Austen Addington tallied six points.

The Rebels (19-2, 6-1) were in control the entire game as they came out on fire with 23 first-quarter points while only allowing nine points.

The Rebels buckled down on their defense even more, only giving the Tigers five points in the second quarterwhile putting up 5 points to take a 38-14 lead at the half before cruising to a 64-34 win at their last home game of the season.

The Rebels will play Prentiss Christian School Friday.
