Vidalia — After snow and sleet cancelled schools in the Miss-Lou for three days, pre-kindergartners at Vidalia Lower Elementary finally got to celebrate their ‘P’ picnic and Pajama Day on Friday.

The 80 pre-kindergarteners spent the day at school in their pajamas while snacking on pickles, popcorn, pudding and pizza.

“We try to do something fun and exciting when learning the letters of the alphabet,” pre-kindergarten teacher Pamela Hoffpauir said. “The children are more likely to remember the letter and sound of the letter if they’re having fun.”

For most of the students, that meant going to the grocery store to help pick out their ‘P’ snack to bring to class.

“We had a lot of fun with the picnic and practicing sounding out the words,” Hoffpauir said. “And when you listen to them talking to each other, there’s a lot of learning going on.”
