Easter hunt promises 1,000-egg fun

Colorful Easter eggs stuffed with surprises will fill Memorial Park on Saturday morning.

Natchez Downtown Development Association’s 2nd Saturday Committee members and volunteers will hide 1,000 eggs filled with stickers and candy in time for children ages 2 through 9 to find them, beginning at 11 a.m. on the second Saturday in April.

Children are asked to bring their Easter baskets and meet at the South Union Street entrance of Memorial Park.

Memorial Park is located behind St. Mary Basilica, and the meeting entrance is located to the side of St. Mary Basilica.

At 11 a.m., the children will be divided into three age groups — 2 and 3 year olds; 4, 5, and 6 year olds; and 7, 8, and 9 year olds — and guided to their designated “search” area.

The monthly second Saturday evening activities have taken on a different twist. We are now calling our evening activities, which are from 6 until 8 p.m., “2nd Saturday Art Walk.”

Ashley Goodwyn, a young, talented modernist sculptor, will set up at Lanneau’s building, 421 Main St. It will be a great evening with at least six galleries open downtown with special exhibits and refreshments.

Looking ahead, the 2nd Saturday Committee is planning art and story time activities for children on the second Saturday for the next two months.

In May, children are invited to ArtsNatchez Gallery, 425 Main St., to create their very own original Mother’s Day card beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Then, walk to Turning Pages, 520 Franklin St., to hear a story about Mother’s Day.

In June, children are invited to Natchez Art Association, 118 North Pearl St., to design and construct paper ties for their fathers beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Afterwards, they will walk to Turning Pages to hear a story about Father’s Day.
