Clayton — A Concordia Parish grand jury will ultimately decide if charges should be filed against a Clayton man who told law enforcement officials he killed another man in self defense during an altercation last week.

Anthony McKay Glasper, 43, died from stab wounds and D’Angelo D. Leonard, 42, was hospitalized with stab wounds after a fight erupted between the two June 5.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office investigator Phillip Webber said at the time details of the altercation were still being investigated.

Leonard was released from the hospital and spoke to law enforcement officials Wednesday, Webber said.

Glasper and Leonard allegedly got into an altercation earlier that day, Webber said, and then met back up at a house on Margaret Circle in Clayton later that day.

“Glasper supposedly attacked (Leonard) with an object or weapon, and (Leonard) stated he fought back with a knife,” Webber said. “During the incident, one of the stab wounds (Leonard) gave ended up being fatal for Glasper.”

Leonard was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria after the altercation, where he underwent surgery and was recently released from the hospital.

Webber said Leonard’s statements reveal he stabbed Glasper in self defense, so no charges have yet been filed against Leonard.

Webbber said the case would be handed over to the Seventh Judicial District Attorney’s Office, which would put it before a grand jury.
