NATCHEZ — Four plays into the game, Cathedral took the lead, and from there, they wouldn’t look back.

The Green Wave (3-0) rolled over Bogue Chitto (1-2) 52-17 in their first district game of the season.

“It is always nice to have a good start, especially in district,” said Cathedral head coach Ron Rushing. “I’m really pleased with the way we played. We were clicking early and were sharp. We came out with a little enthusiasm, and I’m really proud of the way we started.”

The way Cathedral started was fast. The Green Wave scored on a 20 yard pass from Wyatt Boothe to Jardarius Anderson forty seconds into the game.

Cathedral would record an interception on Bogue Chitto’s first play on offense and then turn around two plays later and score on a 55-yard pass from Boothe to Dee Fleming.

With just over six minutes left in the first, Cathedral would push the lead to 21-0 with a one-yard touchdown run from Christian Jenkins.

Bogue Chitto would respond with their only points in the first half on a 32-yard field goal from Cameron Price, but Cathedral would continue to light up the scoreboard.

RJ Givens would be the next Green Wave player to find the end zone after hauling in a 25-yard pass from Boothe.

Boothe had a big night, despite only playing one half. He finished the game 6-of-7 passing for 168 yards and four touchdowns.

“We have so many receivers that can make plays when they get the ball,” Boothe said. “If I can get it out there to them, it is through the roof what they can do, because they are so athletic and so good.”

With a 28-3 lead heading into the second quarter, Cathedral went on a mission to put the game to bed.

Quinton Logan scampered in from 38 yards out on the first play of the second quarter, Nic Webb added a 31-yard field goal and Logan would find the end zone for the second time from two yards out to give the Green Wave a 45-3 lead heading into halftime.

“I didn’t know I was going to get the ball that much,” Logan said. “Coach told me I would get a few carries, but he gave me the ball a lot.”

Logan would finish the night as the Green Wave’s leading rusher with 65 yards.

With a running clock in the second half, Cathedral wasn’t able to do much offensively. Bogue Chitto added two touchdowns to cut into the lead, but Cathedral put the game away on a 16 yard run from Owen Thibodeaux late in the fourth quarter.

The Green Wave will get a chance to rest this upcoming week with a bye, but Rushing knows it may not be as good as advertised.

“It is kind of a double-edged sword,” he said. “I’m worried about our conditioning. We have a week off, but I think the schedule we played early is going to keep us prepared in conditioning.”

Jenkins also has some concerns.

“It is good, but it slows down our momentum, too,” he said. “It is a whole dead week where you don’t get to play on Friday, but it has its ups and downs.”

The next time Cathedral hits the field it will be against Resurrection, a team Rushing already has his eyes on.

“We are going to work on getting ready for Resurrection now,” he said. “We are going to put the game plan in Monday. It is a big game for us.”

Players are also taking notice.

“It is a huge game,” Jenkins said. “I hear they have a lot better team this year. It is worrying me a little bit.”
