NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman has been indicted for her alleged role in a fatal domestic incident in July.

An Adams County grand jury indicted LaVonda Darcell Jackson, 46, 617 E. Steirs Lane, on a charge of manslaughter in relation to the death of Tere McGraw, 30.

Natchez Police officials said at the time Jackson and McGraw had been drinking at Jackson’s East Stiers Lane residence in the early morning hours of July 25 when they became embroiled in an intense argument.

Police said McGraw allegedly confronted Jackson in a physical manner, and she responded by grabbing a butcher knife and stabbing him in the left upper chest.

McGraw was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:15 a.m.

Adams County Coroner James Lee declared the case a homicide at the time, though police investigators did not immediately charge Jackson as they tried to determine if the stabbing was in self-defense.

District Attorney Ronnie Harper could not be reached for comment Friday evening about why he decided to take the case to the grand jury.

An indictment means the grand jury has affirmed that enough evidence exists to warrant pursuing a case through the legal system.

Following her booking for the indictment at the Adams County jail, Jackson was released on a $45,000 bond.
