WOODVILLE — Services for Vernon S. Dawson Jr., 75, of Woodville, who died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary, La., will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fort Adams Baptist Church with the Rev. Warren Whitaker officiating.

Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Newman Funeral Home in Centreville.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mr. Dawson was born Feb. 27, 1939, the son of Vernon S. Dawson Sr. and Mildred Amelia Dawson.

He was a retired accountant and rural mail carrier.

Mr. Dawson also served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Fort Adams Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Martin White; and one sister, Betty Reed.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Dawson; one daughter, Melisa McCurley and husband, Barney, of Ponchatoula, La.; three sons, Vernon Wesley “Wes” Dawson and wife, Dionessia, of Woodville, Philip Martin Dawson and wife, Katie, of Midlothian, Va., and Eric Augustus Dawson and wife, Lori, of Hot Springs, Ark.; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
