FERRIDAY — Tuesday night presented multiple lopsided wins for local varsity girl squads.

The (14-2) Ferriday Lady Trojans didn’t have any trouble kicking their offense into gear Tuesday night, taking a 24-3 lead in the first quarter of a 58-17 win against Sicily Island.

“We were determined to go ahead and start early as far as affecting them on the offensive end,” head coach Lisa Abron said. “We want to let people know that we’re coming hard. We’re playing with a purpose.”

Message received. Led by Jada Griggs with 13 points, the Lady Trojans took a 37-10 lead into halftime. The big lead allowed Abron to substitute and get other players more experience in preparation for the Lady Trojans’ first district clash of the season Friday against Sterlington.

“We’re going to look to set the tone early again,” said Abron, looking ahead to the district showdown. “Sterlington is kind of like us. They’re not very big, always scrappy. It’s going to be a pretty good game for us. They’re real tenacious. They have that type of reputation.”

Ferriday’s Trenace Morgan provided 10 points, while Kesia Mason added nine. Asia Kelly and Anasia scored eight and five, respectively, for the Lady Trojans.

ACCS 57, Central Hinds 18

RAYMOND — Not even 11 turnovers could keep the ACCS Lady Rebels from making another statement win Tuesday night.

In a 57-18 victory against Central Hinds, ACCS head coach Melanie Hall was able to still find a valuable lesson to teach her young club.

“The 11 turnovers are way too many,” Hall said. “With the weapons we have, I feel like teams shouldn’t be able to press us, but they do and we have a tendency to make mistakes. We’ve just got to work on that.”

Hall didn’t take anything away from her girls’ effort and performance, though, quick to praise the transition and halfcourt offense her team ran successfully.

“One play that kind of sums up the way the girls played was when Caitlyn Gamberi passed to Debra Rymer late in the game,” Hall said. “Debra scored and Gamberi’s face lit up like a Christmas tree. All of my kids want to get everyone involved, and I’m blessed to work with them.”

Mackenzie Boyd led the team in scoring with 16, while her sister Bailey Boyd added 13 in the win.

Tensas Academy 31, Trinity 49

NATCHEZ — Trinity kept the large-margin wins going for the area with a 49-31 win against Tensas Academy Tuesday night.

Trinity raced out to a 13-4 lead in the first quarter, and led 25-11 at the half. A 19-point third quarter by the Lady Saints all but sealed the big victory for Trinity.

D’Asia Mitchell led Trinity with 11, while Tali Beard added 10 and Dionna Jackson provided eight points in the win.

Amite County 54, Jefferson County 42

FAYETTE — A four-point second quarter by Jefferson County would ultimately lead to a Lady Tiger defeat at the hands of Amite County.

With a 16-11 lead in the second quarter, Amite County’s defense clamped down on Jefferson County, as Amite outscored Jefferson County 14-4 in the period. Down 30-15 lead at half, Jefferson County would outscore Amite in the third and fourth quarter, but ultimately fell short of a rally.

Antrell Gales led Jefferson County with 15, while ReKeijah Williams provided 11.
