Standeford, 26, 749 White Chapel Road, Carriere, was booked by the Adams County Jail Friday on an indictment after the death of Kory DeWitt, who Standeford ran over with the vehicle she was driving, in August 2014 on Cloverdale Road.

The case began when deputies responded to the scene on Cloverdale Road, where DeWitt was reportedly living.

An ACSO spokesperson said Standeford had called emergency responders after running over DeWitt, who had been in the vehicle with her.

Standeford reportedly told investigators DeWitt had gotten out of the vehicle while she tried to park it and did not realize he was in the way until she had run over him and heard him banging on the bottom of the car.

DeWitt was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect likewise reportedly told investigators she was under the influence of Xanax and Lorcet at the time of the incident.

Standeford was originally charged with culpable negligence manslaughter until Judge Patricia Dunmore signed an order upgrading the charge to murder based on the continued investigation of the case.

She was released on a $25,000 bond Friday.
