NATCHEZ — Need to know when the Natchez Board of Aldermen meet next? Or what time karaoke starts at Bowie’s Tavern?

There’s an app for that.

Thanks to Access Natchez, the city’s debut mobile phone app, a plethora of city information is just a click, or swipe, away.

Natchez Information Technology Director Ed Bowser said the app’s launch comes in conjunction with the city’s latest website makeover.

“This is something that greatly unlocks communication within the city,” Bowser said.

Among Access Natchez’s 11 features are an alert center, city calendar, city staff directory and resource directory.

One feature Bowser said he is especially excited about is the “report a concern” feature.

“If you want to report a problem, like a street light being down, you can send in a photo through ‘report a concern,’” Bowser said.

If users choose to provide their email and cell phone information, Bowser said the app would notify the user once the problem is fixed.

“It’s a great advantage for users,” Bowser said.

Other app features, like the Visit Natchez feature, links users directly to the Visit Natchez website, where daily events are posted.

Bowser said this was a feature city officials wanted to incorporate in order to provide more information to tourists.

“We’re obviously planning on having a lot of people come in to town for the tricentennial,” Bowser said. “And this will keep them updated as things change and announcements are made.”

Bowser said he is still working on making additions to the app to make it as user friendly as possible.

The app was created through CivicPlus, a Kansas-based web development business, and cost the city $4,500.

Access Natchez is free and available to iPhone and Android users.
