FERRIDAY — Services for Sammie Henry Parker, 82, of Vidalia, who died Sunday, June 14, 2015, at St. Francis Medical Center in Alexandria, La., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Ferriday with the Rev. Josh Morea officiating.

Burial will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery in Sicily Island under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Parker was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Concordia Parish, the son of William Samuel Parker and Gladys Armstrong Parker.

Mr. Parker served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Ferriday.

He was employed as an electrician, refrigeration tech and an all around handy man.

Mr. Parker also served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice Louise Parker; one son, Stephen Parker; and five brothers, Milton Parker, Cecil Parker, Willie Parker, Paul Parker and Leo Parker.

Survivors include one son, Cecil Parker and wife, Phyllis, of Vidalia; two sisters, Juanita Smith and Ruth Rush, both of Clayton; two brothers-in-law, Charles Webb and wife, Janie, of Ferriday and Gerald Webb of Clayton; three grandsons, Jared Parker, Jody King and Stephen Parker; two granddaughters, Callie Parker and Ashley Parker; four great-grandchildren, Olivia Parker, Keyleigh King, Adisyn King and Gage King; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be deacons of the First Baptist Church of Ferriday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ferriday.
