VIDALIA — The Miss-Lou received a good lesson in walking in a single file line Saturday.

At The Markets Food and Lifestyle Show, attendees made their way, one behind the other, around approximately 30 booths showcasing products.

Attendees stood in line to sample the offerings of vendors like Blue Bell Creameries, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Zatarain’s and Community Coffee, among others, and watched product demonstrations for cookware and cleaning products.

Over its decade-long history, the show has become known for its samples, and that is exactly what brought Natchez residents Estus and Sally Porter to the show at the Vidalia Conference and Convention Center Saturday afternoon.

“We came to eat,” Estus said proudly.

Sally said the show has become a can’t miss event for them.

“We come every year to see what is new and to try everything,” she said. “We wouldn’t dare miss it.”

The Porters skipped lunch to make sure there was enough tummy space to get at least one sample of everything the show had to offer.

So far, Sally said, they were pleased.

“Everything is good,” she said. “We liked the smoked sausage and, well, everything, and we still have some left to sample.”

Jennifer Truitt moved from booth to booth slowly as the line in front of her sampled and moved on. Truitt said she didn’t mind the wait because the samples were good and the atmosphere was fun.

“It’s not hot in here like it is outside,” she said.

Truitt of Natchez said after attending the show last year, she knew she’d be back.

“We like to sample all of the different stuff,” she said.

After sampling items, she said many of the new items will even make their way on to her grocery lists.

“We like a lot of them,” she said. “I end up buying things that I’ve sampled.”

Nearing the end of the sample line, lemonade tea samples being offered had really made an impact.

“We really like those,” she said. “Krystal (Conerly) said immediately she was going to have to get some of that at home.”

The food and lifestyle show continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Vidalia Conference Center. Tickets are sold at the door for $3 each.
