JACKSON — Services for Henry L. “Pop” Clark, 58, of Jackson, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, in Jackson, will be noon today at the New Heights Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jackson.08:21 HenryLClark obitpic

Burial will follow at the Autumn Woods Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Willis and Sons Funeral Home in Jackson.

Mr. Clark was born July 18, 1957, in Natchez, the son of Robert Clark and Willie Mae Clark.

He was a 1975 graduate of North Natchez High School and received a scholarship in music.

Early on, Henry excelled in music and became a hometown soloist, inspiring a number of people with his unique vocal abilities. He became a hometown legend.

After the death of his parents, Henry moved to Jackson where he attended Tougaloo College. He joined the Tougaloo College choir where he sharpened his amazing vocal skills and continued his legacy in music. During his time at Tougaloo, he met his lifelong friend and brother, Harry Watson and the Watson family. They would form a lifetime bond of friendship and accomplishments for more than 40 years.

In the early 80s, Henry joined the New Heights Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served as an ordained deacon, choir member, usher, lead soloist and counselor to young people.

Henry was a loving friend and shelter for those in need. His selflessness and dedication was proven over and over again.

Henry “Pop” served the New Heights family until God called him home. Among his accomplishments were a member of the Mississippi Mass Choir, New Heights SDA Choir, Smith and Clark, JAC, The Voices of Faith and the Tougaloo Choir.

Henry spent a number of years working in hotel management and hotel services. He also helped to manage St. Joshua’s Children’s Group Home in Jackson, where he inspired young men to turn their lives around, later to bring the gift of a home into his private home, where he continued his selfless giving.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include one son, Stacey E. Smith and wife, Brandy, of Gulf Port; 10 grandchildren, six boys and four girls; one brother, J.W. Hall and wife, Brenda Regina, of Natchez; two aunts, Shelly Dickey and Emma Ree Shaw, both of Natchez; one niece, Doris Thomas; one nephew, J.W. “Squirt” Hall Jr.; a special cousin, James Clark; his brothers-in-Christ, Harry Watson and Claude Nichols; his New Heights choir family; and a number of cousins and friends whose lives he touched and changed with his love of God and his love for music.

We love and will miss you, Henry.
