NATCHEZ — The Natchez High School baseball team left Wingfield High School begging for mercy Tuesday night.

And after four innings, mercy was finally shown.

The Bulldogs pounded Wingfield 27-2, finally triggering the 12-runs-after-four mercy rule following the bottom of the fourth.

“I was pleased with our hitting tonight,” NHS baseball coach Charlie Williams said. “We finally got aggressive at the plate and did a good job hitting the ball.

“I couldn’t tell what type of defense we had tonight, because they only got five hits and most of them were popups. We look to improve on offense and defense, and the game didn’t provide an opportunity for defense.”

Trey Fleming got the win, going two innings and giving up one run. He also struck out four. Quinton Logan came in relief for the last two innings, striking out three and giving up one run.

Alfred Banks was 4-for-4 with a grand slam for the Bulldogs. Davion Ward went 3-for-5 with two doubles.

NHS improved to 5-4 on the season, 1-1 in regional play.
