JONESVILLE — An out-of-state driver was injured and a building was significantly damaged Thursday night after the vehicle he was driving plowed through the front of the building.

Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective Amy Franklin said Sammy Williamson of Georgia was westbound on U.S. 84 when the Cadillac Escalade he was driving left the roadway and crashed into the Concordia Electric Cooperative building at 1885 U.S. 84.

The incident happened at approximately 7:30 p.m.

“He told us he passed out,” Franklin said. “He went across the field and came into the side of the building. It took out the front of the building.”

Williamson was injured in the wreck and was transported to an Alexandria-area hospital for treatment, but was released Friday, Franklin said.

In a statement on its website, officials with Concordia Electric said the cooperative will be temporarily closed but has a tentative re-opening date of Tuesday or Wednesday.

Since the incident happened after hours, no employees were injured or otherwise involved, the statement said.

The Concordia Electric phones remain in working order and the cooperative has a dispatcher on call as usual, the statement said.

Concordia Electric provides power in five parishes in east central Louisiana, and service was not interrupted during the incident.
