NATCHEZ — A Natchez man was shot four times at Club Paradise at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, and is listed in critical condition at a local hospital where he underwent surgery, said Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said.

Calvin Matthews, 26, of Riverwood Manor Apartments on Martin Luther King Jr. Road, was shot twice in the chest, once in the lower torso and once in the leg.

Police are seeking the suspect in the shooting, Walter Washington, 25, 220 Oakland Drive, Natchez.

Mullins said Matthews was conscious when officers arrived on the scene and was able to advise who shot him.

Mullins said the shooting stems from a prior dispute.

A female subject, unrelated to the dispute, was treated and released from the hospital after one bullet grazed her ankle.

Casings from a 9-millimeter were recovered from the bar.

Mullins said if anyone has information on Washington, call Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.

“He will be charged with aggravated assault,” Mullins said.
