MONTEREY — Josh Chapman had a game-high 21 points as the Monterey Wolves handily defeated the Harrisonburg Bulldogs Friday night in their District 6-B finale.

With the win, Monterey improved to 17-11 overall and finished with a 4-6 record in district play. Yet despite having a losing record in district, they could very well finish ahead of Glenmora in the Class B power rankings.

Glenmora, 11-21 overall, will take on Avoyelles Charter today to determine second and third place in the district after both of those teams went 7-3 in the district. The Wildcats are currently at No. 23 in the latest Class B power rankings.

However, Monterey entered Friday night’s regular-season finale at No. 18 — five spots clear of Glenmora. It’s doubtful the Wolves will move up considering they beat at Harrisonburg team that went winless in district play.

“We’ll know Sunday evening or Monday morning who we’ll get in the playoffs,” Monterey head coach Eric Richard said.

Richard added that even though Glenmora has an overall losing record, he feels the Wildcats are a top-16 team and are better than Avoyelles Charter.

“I think their record is a little deceiving because of some of the opponents. They’ve got tremendous athletes. They’re pretty good. Whoever gets them as a 20 or 21 (seed) is going to have a heck of a time,” Richard said about Glenmora.
