NATCHEZ — The Krewe of Janus will celebrate the Mardi Gras season with the theme, “A Salute to Broadway” at the grand ball at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Natchez Convention Center.

The Krewe of Janus has also announced their royal court and officers.

Officers for the 2010 — 2011 season are Lisa Johnson, president; Freddie Woods, vice-president; Frances Bailey, secretary; Georganna Berry, assistant secretary; Pamela B. Plummer, financial secretary; Barbara N. Johnson, treasurer; Fannie Campbell, sergeant-at-arms; Cecelia Thompson, parliamentarian; Nikki Smoot, chaplain; Eunice Marsaw and LaRoy Merrick, members-at-large; Robert Plummer and Valeria Johnson, executive board members-at-large and Connie Merrick, captain.

Charter members of the Krewe of Janus are Robert Plummer, Pamela B. Plummer, Barbara N. Johnson, Lisa Johnson and Valeria Johnson.

King Janus 2011 Kendrick Keon Baldwin

Baldwin is a native of Natchez, but now resides in Jackson. He graduated from Provine High School and will further his studies at Hinds Community College in Raymond.

Baldwin is the son of Mrs. Connie Evans and Ondra “Al” Evans of Byram and Mr. Tim Terrell of Natchez, and the grandson of the late Jimmie and Frances Baldwin. “Keon,” as he is fondly called, is employed by The Country Club of Jackson.

He attends the New Galilean Missionary Baptist Church pastored by Nathaniel V. Booker and is the proud father of four children. In his spare time, Baldwin enjoys listening to music, playing video games, raising his children, traveling, rooting for his favorite football team the Buffalo Bills and spending time with family and friends.

Queen Janus 2011 Glenda Fay Ferguson

Ferguson is the daughter of John Bacon and the late Sadie Bacon and the late J.B. Matthews. She has three children, Courtney, Percy and Bria, and grandchildren, Xavier and CamRon, four sisters and three brothers.

Ferguson is a graduate of South Natchez High School, Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Delta Career College. She is currently employed by Mississippi Department of Health.

Ferguson is a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and the Queen Ester Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies include cooking, playing games and spending time with her family and friends.

Captain Connie Merrick

Merrick was born in Natchez. She is the daughter of Jessie and the late Anna Miller and Joyce and the late John “Big Red” Brown.

Merrick, along with her seven siblings, moved to Biloxi at an early age. She graduated from Biloxi High School.

She is currently employed with Natchez Community Hospital as a certified pharmacy technician.

Merrick has two children, LaRoy and DaMorris Merrick, one daughter-in-law Eugenia Merrick, three grandchildren, JaQuan, DaMorris Jr. and Kaydence Merrick and three godchildren, Everett Sanders, Kimberly Bell and Earl Gordon Jr.

Merrick is an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she serves as a lector and an usher. Her hobbies are shopping, reading, spending time with her family and friends especially her Sunday dinner ride-or-die crew. Merrick said she feels God has truly blessed her and she is always willing to help others.

Duchess Shirley Bailey

Bailey was born and raised in Natchez. She graduated from Natchez High School and attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College where she majored in medical billing and coding. Bailey also attended Alcorn State University where she majored in Elementary Education.

She is employed as regional general manager of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Bailey is a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church and is active in the Girl Scouts of America, 4H on the move, Future Business Leaders of America and Queen of Easter Order of the Eastern Star.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mitchell. She is married to Tony Bailey and they have three daughters, Chassidy, Katara and India and two sons Tony and Henry. She enjoys playing tennis, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Duchess Lisa W. Johnson

Johnson is a native of Natchez. She is a chartered member of the Krewe of Janus and serves as president.

Johnson is the daughter of Wilbur O. and Barbara Johnson Sr. and the late Mary H. Johnson. Lisa earned her bachelor’s of science degree from Grambling State University and her master’s from Southern University. Johnson is a speech pathologist and is employed by the Natchez-Adams County School District.

Johnson is a member of the Adams County Association of Educators and serves on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Association of Educators.

She is a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she serves as president of the choir, is a member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court No. 9 serving as treasurer, the Hattie R. Marshall/Sis. Edith Brinkley Ladies of Grace Chapter No. 44 serving as Faithful Captain and is an usher and serves on the pastoral council.

Johnson is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. where she is financial secretary. Lisa is also a member of WE-Women Empowered Do Pray. Lisa enjoys spending time with her family, singing, reading and traveling.

Duke Zachary Robinson

Robinson is a native of Natchez. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 2000. After graduation he attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Alcorn State University.

Robinson is married to Kizzy Robinson and they have four children. He is employed with the Vidalia Apparel Fruit of the Loom.

Robinson was King Janus IV in 2005.

He is a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason MWWTM Grant Jr. Grant Lodge A. F. & A. M. Order of Eastern Star. Zachary enjoys coaching youth basketball, working at JCPenney and spending time with his family and friends.

Duke LaRoy Merrick

Merrick was born and raised in Natchez. He grew up in the Natchez School District and graduated from Natchez High School in 2000. He then attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he received a bachelor’s of science in business administration with an emphasis in finance in 2004.

After graduation, he moved to Lake Charles to work for Whitney National Bank. While in Lake Charles, he was a Spring 2005 initiate of Lake Charles Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

In 2007, Merrick moved back to Hattiesburg to enter the management trainee pro He is currently pursing his masters of arts in teaching at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Since moving to Hattiesburg, he joined the Hattiesburg Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He is the representative for Kappa with the National Pan-Hellenic Council.

Merrick is an active member of West Point Baptist Church where he is involved in various ministries. He enjoys spending time with God, reading, shopping and hanging out with friends and family.

Merrick said he lives from day to day saying, “God just do you,” and thinking whatever God puts him through today is preparing him for something greater tomorrow.
