NATCHEZ — The Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration will continue through the weekend for many.

The annual parade was canceled Monday due to a chance of rainfall, MLK events chairwoman Katie Ruth Moore said. The parade is rescheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday and will line up starting at 1:30 p.m.

Moore said rain on Sunday also caused the postponement. Parade riders and coordinators were unable to work on the floats Sunday to have them prepared to roll Monday, Moore said.

The route will start on Franklin Street and ride to Martin Luther King Jr. Road before turning left and ending near Minor Street.

Moore said a parade celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day has been in existence in Natchez since 1988.

She is not worried about low attendance as a result of the postponement.

“Once the community knows when it’s going to be they’ll come out,” Moore said.
