VIDALIA — An alert resident forced an alleged burglar out of his house Tuesday after the would-be burglar apparently broke into to the front door.

Kaleb S. Tarver, 40, of 217 Lynn Haven Drive, was charged with home invasion, aggravated burglary, criminal damage to property and disturbing the peace in connection with an incident that occurred in the 300-block of Stampley Street on March 23.

Assistant Vidalia Police Chief Bruce Wiley said one of the house’s occupants called police immediately after Tarver allegedly broke into the front door and forced his way in. During the call, another resident of the house reportedly grabbed Tarver and forced the subject back outside, Wiley said.

Tarver is then alleged to have gotten into a blue pickup truck and fled the scene before officers arrived, Wiley said.

Tarver was being held Thursday at the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility on a $45,210 bond.

The Concordia Parish Narcotics Task Force assisted in the arrest.
