VIDALIA — It didn’t Vidalia 12-and-under All-Stars long to erase memories of Saturday night’s forgettable 7-3 loss.

The all-stars struck for four runs in the first inning and never looked back Sunday as it routed Blanchard 17-0 in four innings to stave off elimination at the Little League Louisiana State Tournament.

“We came out strong,” Vidalia coach Randi Poole said. “Our bats were working today. We really had no errors. They were ready to play. They knew it was win or go home.”

Vidalia demonstrated equal balance, offensively and defensively. The all-stars pounded out 12 base hits, including three extra-base hits, while pitcher Rebecca Cowan faced just two batters over the minimum in her four strong innings.

“She did an awesome job in the circle tonight,” Poole said. “Location wise, she was putting it on the spots, and if they did hit, our fielders were backing her up. She had a strong defense behind her.”

Cowan allowed just one hit, while striking out one batter. The right-hander also provided by offensive punch with four runs driven in.

“We wanted to be loose and play well,” Cowan said. “I was focusing on just throwing strikes and locating my pitches.”

Not to be outdone, catcher Lauren Dunbar reached base safely three times and drove in two runs, while leadoff hitter Allie Lipsey had two hits and reached base safely in all four of her plate appearances.

“It makes you feel good when everyone is hitting,” Cowan said. “It makes you feel like you can do anything.

The all-stars will attempt to keep the momentum going and stave off elimination once again at 7 p.m. tonight. A win would slot Vidalia into the championship round Tuesday night.

“We want to be in the championship game,” Poole said.
