NATCHEZ — An Adams County mother was arrested Friday night after allegedly shooting her own 12-year-old daughter from behind after an argument.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Jerry Brown said Cynthia Skipper, 36, 742 Lower Woodville Road, was charged with attempted murder following the incident, which occurred at her residence.

Brown said Skipper and her daughter allegedly had an altercation, then Skipper retrieved a gun and reportedly shot her daughter from behind as the girl was sitting in a recliner chair.

Brown said the bullet went through the back of the recliner and struck the girl in the shoulder.

“Right now, we believe it didn’t exit, and the projectile is still in the child,” Brown said.

The girl was airlifted to a Jackson hospital for treatment, Brown said. Her condition was unknown Friday night.

Multiple children — 9 years old and younger — were in the house when the shooting took place, Brown said. No one else was reported injured.

Brown said deputies have responded to multiple domestic disturbance calls at the family’s residence, at least one of those calls in recent weeks.

“We have responded to that house quite a few times,” he said.
