GLOSTER — Services for Bryan Allen Anders, 89, a lifelong resident of Gloster, who died Monday, March 13,2 017, at Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary, La., will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster with the Rev. Brian Malone officiating.
Burial will follow at Roseland Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Brown Funeral Home in Gloster.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Anders was born April 4, 1927, in Amite County, the son of Henry and Carrie Reeves Anders.
He was a 1946 graduate of Gloster High School after returning from military service. He was a proud World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy preparing Corsair Airplanes for takeoff in Green Cove Springs, Fla. He was discharged from the Navy in 1946.
Ben married Sara Jo Barkdull of Liberty in December of 1951, after they met while they worked together at Crawford Corporation. The couple had four sons, Mike of Starkville, Rick of Deadwood, S.D., David of McComb and Bill of Ridgeland — raising them on Second Street in Gloster.
He lived his entire life in Amite County, except for his military service and a short time in Colorado Springs, Colo. Ben worked in a number of different jobs during his lifetime including Crawford Corporation for 15 years and for 16 years at William Carter Company in Centreville. He was a longtime member of Galilee Baptist Church in Gloster and a deacon emeritus of Galilee.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife; his parents; five brothers, Alton, Grady, Raiford, Roddis and Thomas; and three sisters, Edna, Maxine and Merle.
In addition to being proud parents, Ben and Jo were the proud grandparents to 11 grandchildren, Courtney, Matt, Davy, Griffin, Candice, Jonathan, Parker, Curtis, Carrie, Karli and Casey; six great-grandchildren, Haley, Taylor, Jaxon, Scarlett, Oliver and Benny; one sister, Adine Wilson of northwest Arkansas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the community and especially Doris Robinson for the many acts of kindness and support over the last year to keep Ben in his home in Gloster, the place he wanted to be.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mississippi Baptist Children’s Village or Galilee Baptist Church.
