Natchez tennis fall in playoffs to West Jones, 4-3

The Natchez High School tennis team fell in a close contest to West Jones 4-3 in a playoff showdown Wednesday in a match played in Brookhaven.

Kirdis Clark won her singles match in easy fashion, taking down West Jones’ Emmy Scroggs 6-2, 6-0.

In No. 1 girls double action, Natchez’s Kelsey McNeal and Danyel Weir defeated Savana Shows and Eva Kip 6-3, 7-5.

In No. 2 boys doubles, Raheem Givens and Larry Campbell edged out a tight match over Tanner Bullock and Logan Parker, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0.

However, the Bulldogs fell in No. 1 boys singles, No. 2 girls doubles, No. 1 boys doubles and mixed doubles.

Natchez ends the year with a 5-4 overall record.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs will have several players making state tournament appearances next month..

Clark and Givens both advance to state in singles action, while Vincent Bonds and Carley McNealy advance in mixed doubles.

The tournament will take place on May 8-10 in Jackson.
