ferriday — The Trinity Episcopal baseball team put up 19 runs in just eight innings Saturday afternoon to take two, five inning, games from Baton Rouge Home School at Huntington Field.

“Any time you have a good day and can play two and come out with a couple of wins (is good),” Trinity coach Mitch Ashmore said.

Trinity scored runs in very different ways.

In game one the Saints pounded out 11 hits and had big offensive performances from several players.

Scott Turner went 3-for-3 in game one with a home run and scored three times. Chase Patrick had two doubles and drove in four. Andrew Moroney also scored three times in the game and had two singles.

After giving up one run in the top of the first, the Saints scored two in the second, four in the third and six in the fourth. They would go on to win 12-1 after five innings.

Trevor Faust got the win for Trinity. He went the full five innings and gave up just one run on five hits.

Trinity took a much more patient offensive approach in game two.

Game two was much closer and Trinity had to hold on in the fifth inning to win 7-5. The Saints only got four hits, but drew nine walks to score their seven runs.

Baton Rouge Home School took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. Jacob Hardy reached on a one-out double, then Thomas Badeaux walked and Dalton Allen doubled to score Hardy. That set the state for Andrew Hardy’s two-out, two RBI single.

Trinity would answer in the bottom half of the third with five runs of its own.

Daniel Dunaway led off the inning with a single, Kent King followed with a fly out to left. After that the Saints drew five consecutive walks to score their five runs.

Each team would add two more runs in the fourth, which game Trinity a two-run lead going into the top of the last inning.

Two walks put runners on first and second for Jacob Hardy with two outs. Trinity pitcher Jake Winston got Hardy to ground out to end the game.

“I think both games were a little opposite,” Ashmore said. “We played pretty well in the first game but in the second we seemed to be somewhere else. We mentally lacked (focus) in the second game.”

The two wins move Trinity to 15-2 on the season and 4-0 in District 6-A. The Saints will host Centreville Tuesday.
