NATCHEZ — A Natchez man is behind bars for reportedly breaking into a Fisk Avenue house last month.

Natchez Police Department Lt. Julius Steele said Dentrell Dontae Johnson, 22, 38 Brenham Ave., was charged Tuesday with burglary of a dwelling for an incident that reportedly occurred on April 18.

Steele said a Fisk Avenue resident reported that she was woken up by several knocks on her door shortly before 10 p.m. The resident told police she stayed in bed until the knocking continued, and when she got up, she reportedly saw Johnson attempting to enter the residence through a living room window.

Johnson reportedly fled when the resident yelled at him and was later spotted walking in the area.

Johnson was later identified in a photo lineup and arrested.

The police report notes the incident was an attempted burglary and does not list any stolen items.

However, Steele said suspects are charged with burglary if they cross the threshold of a door, window or other entrance into a residence.

Johnson remains in the Natchez City Jail with a $25,000 bond.
