Summer’s here; so is good news

After the last of the graduation caps are stored away and before we reach for the beach towels and sunscreen, let us pause to reflect on some of the highlights from last week:

  • Margaret Jordan saw her hard work and long hours of studying in high school pay off when she was recently announced as Adams County Christian School’s STAR student. Jordan said she was proud to win the honor and chose her government and economics teacher Warren Whitaker as her STAR teacher. The daughter of Charles and Lyda Jordan, Margaret said her father serves as her inspiration because he encourages her to succeed. Congratulations to Margaret Jordan for her achievements, which we know will continue to grow.
  • Graduates from Cathedral High School, Natchez Early College Academy and Natchez High School tossed their caps into the air and took their first big step into a bright future. The three schools ended a month of celebrations for Miss-Lou students, who are now opening a new chapter. We encourage them to savor every moment of this exciting time in their lives.
  • The Natchez Festival of Music closed the curtain on another wonderful month of music in May with the classic opera “Barber of Seville.” The month-long event kept the parking lot of the Natchez Performing Art Center at Margaret Martin School filled each weekend. With everything from Motown hits and Mississippi blues to the sounds of Elvis Presley and Broadway’s “Camelot” the festival offered something for music lovers of all types to enjoy. We cannot wait for the curtain to open again next year for another season.

As we enter a new week headed straight into summer, let us remember to always be on the look out for good things in our community.
