MEADVILLE — Mollie Devening didn’t have her best stuff on the mound for Cathedral, but what she had was good enough to help the Lady Green Wave get a much-needed win Tuesday night.

Despite walking eight Franklin County batters, Devening did limit the Lady Bulldogs to four hits and struck out seven in a complete-game outing as Cathedral took a 7-1 victory to end a two-game losing streak.

The Lady Green Wave took advantage of two costly errors by the Lady Bulldogs during a five-run rally in the top of the third inning that broke a scoreless ball game.

Had it not been for those miscues, which as Franklin County head coach Dana Smith noted led to three of Cathedral’s five runs in that frame, the final score would have been much closer.

Lay Lay Griffin was charged with the loss as she allowed six runs on six hits with one walk and one strikeout over four innings.

The Lady Green Wave ended up with 12 hits, but just one went for extra bases. That was a double by MacKenzie Watts. Peyton Monticello went 2-for-3.

Cathedral (14-8) hosts Resurrection Catholic for a key Division 8-1A doubleheader Friday afternoon beginning at 4 p.m. If the Lady Green Wave wins both game, it will be the division champion.

Franklin County (9-8-2) plays at McComb Thursday with the junior varsity game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 6 p.m.
