Trinity Episcopal senior Anna Rodriguez has attended the school’s annual “Meet the Saints” event every year since she was in kindergarten.

And while Tuesday night’s festivities marked the final time the cheerleading captain would attend the event as a Saint, Rodriguez said this year’s experience means more to her than just being her last.

“This is my last one, and it’s the best one,” she said. “In the past few months, Trinity has really come together, and I couldn’t be more excited to represent my school.”

Trinity Episcopal faculty, students and supporters filled the school’s gymnasium as they took part in the 2017 rendition of the school’s athletics pep rally.

The school’s elementary, middle and high school cheerleaders, dance, softball and football teams were all recognized during Tuesday’s night fun.

“This is a special event,” senior football player Kris Genous said.

Genous, who serves as one of 15 members on the football squad, said although his team may be small in number, they are more than eager to put their strength on full display Friday in its season opener at Amite School Center.

“It’s my senior year, and we have to go all out,” he said. “We know we don’t have a lot of players, but we’re going to play hard. I’m ready for Amite. I’m ready to play them and show them what we’ve got.”

Rodriguez, who also serves on the school’s softball team, said Trinity is a special place to her and has helped develop her both in the classroom and in athletics.

“Trinity is a place where everybody can be themselves and branch out into different sports or extra-curricular activities that you never really would have before,” Rodriguez said. “I would have never been on the softball team if I wasn’t at Trinity. I’m just really grateful for the opportunity to play softball and to be in all the different clubs.”
