NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Marie Dora Valentine, 98, of Ferriday, who died Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Magnolia House in Natchez, will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Tuesday with Bro. Mark Richardson officiating.

Burial will follow at the cemetery, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Marie Dora Valentine was born on Sunday, June 22, 1919 in West Monroe. She was a member of Ferriday First Baptist Church and Lake Shore Baptist Church on Lake St. John. She was an active member of WMU in both churches. Ms. Valentine played the piano for Lake Shore Baptist Church. She was also an active member of PTA, Booster Club during the years and taught Sunday School.

She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Benjamin Kent; mother, Willie Lorena Sawyer; brother, Henry Bernard Kent; sister-in-law, Francis Evelyn Hamilton; two husbands, Raymond H. Jay and F.H. “Jack” Valentine; son, Wayne Henry Jay; and daughter, Phyllis Marie Duncan.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Elaine Reid and husband Ansell L. of Conroe, Texas; granddaughter, Alicia Stowers Havard and husband David of Natchez; and a great-grandson, Landon H. Havard of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Mann, Tom Vigil, David Havard, Landon Havard, Lamar Bullen and Dave Kent.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask that donations could be made to Alzheimers or Cancer society.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff, nurses and patient assistants for the loving and wonderful care given to our loved one during her last eight years as a resident in The Terrace at the Magnolia House in Natchez. Also, thanks to Compassus Hospice for their excellent attention and care.

We will be forever grateful to all that took care of our loving mother and grandmother.
