NATCHEZ — Memorial services for coach Keith Walters, 64, of Natchez, who died peacefully Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at his residence surrounded by family, will be 11 a.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church in Natchez with the Rev. Bo Swilly officiating.        
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church. All are welcome to celebrate coach Walters’ life.
Arrangements are under the direction of Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven.
Mr. Walters was born March 28, 1954, in Houston, the son of Rad Walters and Laverne Walters of Eupora.
He was a 1973 graduate of Eupora High School and received his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Mississippi State University in 1977. Over the course of his coaching career, he coached a variety of sports at Heritage Academy in Columbus, Adams County Christian School in Natchez, Chamberlain Hunt Academy in Port Gibson and Wilkinson County Christian Academy in Woodville — leading three of his teams with State Championships in both football and basketball.
Walters was known for his tough “two-a-day” practices, his sportsmanship and his ability to teach important life lessons to his players through sports. He was also an avid golfer in his spare time.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye DeMoss Walters; three daughters, Danielle Walters of New Orleans, Jaclyn Jennings Jones of Natchez and Melissa Jennings of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandchildren, Madison Burgess, Brock Burgess and Reece Jones, all of Natchez; and one brother, Bruce Walters of Eupora.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty McFate, Donnie Smith, Jimmy Phares, Bill Hurst, Rick Fife, Ron Rushing, Gene Lofton, Wettlin Treppendahl, Ray Simpson, Bruce Laird, Charlie Newlon, Dale Watts, Wade Craig, Troy Bond, Chuck freeman, Brad Wilcutt, Danny Bowering, Andy Pressgrove, Jimmy Duncan, Mike Grove and Bob Stanley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Tumor Foundation (ctf.org) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org.) The Children’s Tumor Foundation is a nonprofit medication foundation dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by Neurofibromatosis.
