ROXIE — Services for the Rev. Carl “Corky” Evans, 88, who died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Franklin Memorial Hospital with his loving wife and friends by his side, will be 1 p.m. today at Union Baptist Church in Roxie with the Rev. Andy McDaniel officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Rev. Evans was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Tennessee, the son of Martin Evans and Effie Evans.
He surrendered to the ministry and was ordained at Lake St. John Community Baptist Church on July 15, 1984. He followed that call by pastoring Elmo Baptist Church and Union Baptist Church. He was instrumental in starting building programs everywhere he ministered. He influenced countless numbers of people with his dedicated witness and love for his savior, Jesus Christ.
Evans was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jewell Evans; and two brothers, Herschel Evans and Buford Evans.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Mable Evans; one sister, Mable McDowel; and stepdaughter, Jane Welch.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Stein, Jim Moulder, Billy Martin Jr., Scott Brumfield, Andrew Jackson and Jacob McDaniel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis McDaniel and Malcolm Whitehead.
The family requests memorials be made in Evans’ name to Union Baptist Church Building Program, P.O. Box 87, Roxie, MS 29661.
