Syrah Technologies to host job fair on Thursday

FERRIDAY — Syrah Technologies will host a job fair 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the multi-purpose room at Central Louisiana Technical Community College in Ferriday.

Syrah Technologies is opening a spherical graphite production facility in Vidalia that is eventually expected to hire some 40 people.

The Vidalia production facility will take flake graphite, mined in the company’s Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, facility, ship it to Vidalia and process it into spherical graphite that will be used in the production of electric automobile batteries.

Paul Jahn, chief operating officer, battery anode materials, Syrah Technologies LLC, said the job fair is open to all levels of potential employees from production line workers to management and technical positions.

Jahn said people are encouraged to bring resumes but having a resume on hand is not required as forms will be available for applicants to fill out.

“The first phase, we plan to hire 20 to 25 individuals,” Jahn said, “over the next nine to 12 months of operation.”

Jahn said the initially the company plans to hire eight to 12 individuals and eventually, the company hopes to have up to 40 employees by 2020.

Current job opportunities at the Vidalia site include:

  • Operator, who ensures the process plant is run in a safe, efficient manner;
  • Laboratory superintendent, who will manage the day-to-day laboratory testing, maintenance and quality control;
  • Shift supervisor, who will continuously improve battery anode material operations team’s capabilities, including coaching and training operators;
  • Electrical and instrumentation supervisor, who will plan and lead the electrical and instrumentation team’s work;
  • Mechanical engineer, who will employ reliability engineering skills to identify, report, prioritize and manage work that enhances plant safety, capacity and quality;
  • Plant administrator, who will plan, implement and maintain administrative processes and systems, records, compile and produce reports supporting administrative functions, including payroll, purchasing, AR/AP, safety, shipping, production and schedules;
  • Maintenance mechanic; performs mechanical plant maintenance and repair activities to ensure safety, control cost and maximize production;
  • I&E technician, who will perform electrical, instrumentation and control system repair activities to ensure safety, control costs and maximize production.
