NATCHEZ — The Adams County Board of Supervisors is making strides toward building a new bridge in the county where a road is in danger of being washed out.

Supervisors are seeking state funding for construction of $300,000 bridge on Verucchi Road, located just off of U.S. 61.

The box culvert underneath the road is not completely eroded yet but supervisors said they expect it will be very soon, which would make the road impassable.

To facilitate the project, supervisors agreed to pay Adams County Water Association $17,000 to move an old water line that is obstructing the project.

The decision came during a special called meeting Monday on a vote of 3-0, with supervisors James “Ricky” Gray and David Carter absent and Mike Lazarus calling in his vote via cell phone.

Adams County attorney Scott Slover said workmen needed to dig out 700 feet of line — which would explain the expense.

Jordan Kaiser & Sessions LLC — an Adams County engineering and land surveying firm — could not begin its work on securing the funds until the agreement was entered Monday, Slover said.

“Once this agreement is entered, Jordan Kaiser will be able to put this matter out for bid, and that would secure the funding on this project,” he said.

Once started, the new bridge may only take a few months to be completed, Slover said.

No other action was taken during Monday’s special meeting.
