NATCHEZ — Adams County supervisors are letting residents know that garbage pickup might be spotty until a new contract is put into place on Dec. 1.

During Monday’s meeting of the Adams County Board of Supervisors, supervisors discussed receiving complaints from residents about trash not being picked up.

District 1 Supervisor Mike Lazarus said he expects those problems will end when the county’s contract with Waste Pro expires Nov. 30.

Metro Service Group will take over the contract Dec. 1.

“The turnover of the contract has drivers looking elsewhere for work and new drivers unfamiliar with the routes,” Lazarus said.

District 4 Supervisor James “Ricky” Gray said he believes the county is not getting what it is paying for.

“I’m not going to make any more excuses for them,” Gray said. “We’re paying them to pick up garbage; they need to pick up the garbage.”

Gray said some residents have received service by calling the county.

“At this point I don’t know what we can do,” Gray said. “The county administrator is calling them. He’ll make a call, and they’ll go back the next day and pick it up.”

Board of Supervisors President Calvin Butler said the county is doing its part to keep track of poor service.

“We’re just having to buckle down,” Butler said. “We’re talking to the corporate office and working through it. Up to this point, Waste Pro has been a good company and had good drivers.”

Butler said residents that need to report a missed garbage pickup should call the Adams County Sanitation Department, where missed service calls are being logged.

“Call us, and we’re documenting everything they’re doing and not doing,” Butler said.
