Minor said her position will fill part of the role left vacant when former YMCA of Natchez Operations Director Alice Agner moved to Jackson late last year to take a position as executive assistant to the CEO of Metropolitan YMCA.

Minor, who grew up in Natchez and played basketball at South Natchez High School, Alcorn State University and the WNBA said she brings years of experience to the job, not only in athletics but also from serving as the former director of the Natchez Boys and Girls Club from 2000 to 2012.

“With the Y, you get everybody in the community involved,” Minor said of her new role. “Previously with the Boys and Girls Club, it was only geared toward youth. What I like about the Y is it for adults and youths.”

Minor said she is in the process of launching an adult basketball league that will begin in early February.

Minor, who holds a sports coaching master’s degree from United States Sports Academy, said she has plans for youth programs as well. However, Minor said, many of the sports programs are seasonal.

“Adult basketball program will be at the Old Martin Gym (in the Margaret Martin Building),” Minor said adding will be after 5 p.m. two days per week. “We are trying to get five teams. Hopefully have two or three teams signed up two days a week.”

Minor said cost of the program is $400 per eight-player team. Additional members beyond eight on a team can pay an additional $10.
