VIDALIA — The Ferriday High School Trojans did not let deficits of 10 and eight points discourage them as they rallied to defeat Vidalia High School 74-69 in an LHSAA District 2-2A game Tuesday night for a rare season sweep of the Vikings.

Ferriday trailed Vidalia 21-11 after one quarter of play before the Trojans outscored the Vikings 22-12 in the second quarter to send the game into halftime tied at 33-33. Then the Vikings responded with a 25-17 advantage in the third quarter for a 58-50 lead.

But a change of defense by Ferriday interim head coach George Barnes as well as big advantage on the boards swung the momentum back to the visiting Trojans.

“They out-rebounded us. That was a major factor,” Vikings head coach Robert Sanders said. “Clutch baskets and free throws down the stretch. They went to a man defense. Sort of got us out of rhythm.”

Ferriday ended up scoring 24 points in the final eight minutes of regulation while Vidalia was held to just 11 points.

Montrieze Sandage led the Trojans with a game-high 26 points while Demarcius Johnson had 16 points and Derrick Johnson finished with 15 points. RayJay Ransom led the Vikings with 23 points and Jaquan Wilson added 21 points. But DeMikal McCoy, one of the Vikings’ leading scorers, was held in check and ended up with seven points.

Ferriday (12-13, 6-4) hosts Rayville High School for Senior Night Friday at 7:30 p.m. Vidalia (11-13, 4-5) plays at Mangham High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Ferriday girls 61,

Vidalia 22 (Tues. night)

VIDALIA — She’Kayla Miller led a balanced scoring attack for the Ferriday High School Lady Trojans with 11 points as they rolled to a 61-22 victory over the Vidalia High School Lady Vikings Tuesday night in an LHSAA District 2-2A game.

Ferriday took control of this rivalry game from the opening tip and dominated Vidalia throughout the first three quarters. The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 19-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and then proceeded to outscore the Lady Vikings 14-4 in the second quarter and 21-5 in the third quarter for a 54-11 cushion.

Five players for the Lady Trojans finished with at least nine points. In addition to Miller leading all players in scoring, Aaliyah Gray and Tierra Spurs had 10 points each while Zaniya Curry and Diamond Johnson added nine points apiece.

The Lady Vikings were led by Angel Heckard and Jamya Smith with seven points each.

Ferriday (21-5, 8-2) welcomes Rayville High School for Senior Night at 6 p.m. Friday. Vidalia (4-17, 2-7) visits Mangham High School Friday at 6 p.m.

Ouachita Christian boys 63,

Delta Charter 60 (Tues. night)

MONROE, La. — The Ouachita Christian School Eagles held on for a 63-60 win over the Delta Charter School Storm Tuesday night in LHSAA District 2-2A action. No other information on the game was available.

Delta Charter (7-14, 3-8) plays host to district rival Sicily Island High School Friday at 7:30 p.m.

MONROE, La. — The Ouachita Christian School Lady Eagles cruised to a 54-28 win over the Delta Charter School Lady Storm in an LHSAA District 2-2A game Tuesday night. No other information on the game was available.

Delta Charter (13-15, 6-5) hosts Sicily Island High School at 6 p.m. Friday.

Wilkinson County boys 53, Franklin County 49 (Mon. night)

WOODVILLE — After a rough first quarter, the Wilkinson County High School Wildcats rallied to defeat the Franklin County High School Bulldogs 53-49 Monday night in an MHSAA Region 7-3A game.

It was also Senior Night at Wilkinson County and perhaps that was why the Wildcats struggled offensively in the early stages of the game.

Wilkinson County had a hard time getting shots to fall in the opening quarter and trailed Franklin County 8-4 at the end of the quarter. But the Wildcats found their rhythm in the second quarter as they outscored the Bulldogs 17-5 for a 21-13 halftime lead.

However, the Bulldogs would not go away quietly. They found their offense in the third quarter and scored 20 points while holding the Wildcats to 11 points to take a 33-32 lead.

Yet the Wildcats prevailed on their home court thanks to a 21-16 advantage in the fourth quarter for a much-needed win in region play.

Wilkinson County (3-15, 2-4) plays at Port Gibson High School Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Forest Hill boys 64,

Natchez High 41 (Mon. night)

JACKSON — Ken Evans Jr. led Forest Hill High School with a game-high 23 points as the Patriots pulled away for a 64-41 win over the Natchez High School Bulldogs Monday night in an MHSAA Region 6-5A game.

Jayme Mitchell added 10 points for Forest Hill (18-6, 5-1), which led Natchez High 28-19 at halftime before outscoring the Bulldogs 25-7 in the third quarter for a commanding 53-26 lead. The win clinched the No. 1 seed for Forest Hill in the Region 6-5A Tournament, which takes place in about two weeks.

James Singleton led the Bulldogs with 21 points while Kedarius Stampley was held to six points.

Natchez High (12-9, 0-5) plays at Wingfield High School Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Brookhaven Academy boys 76, Cathedral 45 (Mon. night)

BROOKHAVEN — Led by Cade Brown and Dawson Flowers, the Brookhaven Academy Cougars defeated the Cathedral High School Green Wave 76-45 Monday night. No other information on the game was available.

Brown led all scorers with 23 points and Flowers finished with 14 points for Brookhaven Academy, which led Cathedral by just three points, 16-13, after one quarter of play before outscoring the Green Wave 28-15 in the second quarter for a 44-28 lead at the break and 22-9 in the third quarter for a 66-37 lead.

Colby Passman led the Green Wave with 14 points and Sam Mosby chipped in with 10 points.

Cathedral (6-17) plays at MAIS District 5-AAA and cross-town rival Adams County Christian School Friday at 7:30 p.m.
