NATCHEZ — A Natchez man who was arrested Tuesday by Natchez police officers on peeping Tom charges was in court Wednesday on an unrelated burglary charge from 2017.

Jonquil T. Jackson, 23, pleaded guilty to burglary of a dwelling Wednesday in circuit court with District 6-2 Judge Debra Blackwell presiding. Jackson was charged in an incident stemming from an October 2017 burglary of a residence on Clifton Avenue.

On Tuesday, Jackson was arrested after a woman told police she caught a man she identified as Jackson peeping at her through a glass door while fondling himself.

During Wednesday’s sentencing, Pam Ferrington from the District Attorney’s Office told Blackwell that Jackson was identified by a Clifton Avenue resident as the man who entered his house and stole a jar of coins in the middle of the afternoon while the resident was watching television. Ferrington said Jackson reportedly grabbed a jar of coins and ran out of the residence.

Ferrington told the court that Jackson is currently out on probation for simple burglary of a house in Louisiana and that he may also be charged with possession of a stolen weapon — a charge that is pending with the grand jury.

Blackwell said Jackson’s criminal history also shows that he has been previously convicted of two house burglaries in 2015.

“That is three other houses you broken into including this one. You are lucky to be alive today because you could have been shot,” Blackwell said to Jackson.

Jackson was originally charged as a habitual offender which means he would, if convicted by a jury, have to serve out the entirety of his sentence without the possibility of parole, probation or early release.

Blackwell accepted Jackson’s plea as a non-habitual offender, leaving him open to early release.

Based on his prior criminal history, Blackwell sentenced Jackson to the maximum 25 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with credit for time served.
