NATCHEZ — Seeds of Change is looking for volunteers to help bring Christmas in April to veterans, senior citizens and disabled individuals in Natchez.

Christmas in April, a national day set aside for volunteers to help disabled people, veterans and senior citizens with projects around their houses, will be recognized on April 27 this year.

“We are in need of volunteers that are skilled, semi-skilled and un-skilled,” said Carolyn Myers of the Seeds of Change Resource Foundation that sponsors the annual event in Natchez and Adams County.

Myers said church and business groups are encouraged to get involved in the effort.

Last year, Seeds of Change helped some 20 seniors, veterans and disabled individuals with projects around their houses in Natchez.

Originally, last year, Myers had said she hoped to help 15 individuals but the volunteer response was strong enough to help 20 individuals who had requested help with projects around their houses.

Seeds of Change is a 501(C) (3) organization Myers founded after her husband, Frank, died of cancer in 2016.

The organization operates a food pantry and a clothes closet to help needy people with food and clothing. The food pantry has grown from helping 35 people to helping more than 200 people, Myers said.

Applications will be accepted until March 30 for volunteers to help bring Christmas in April to seniors, veterans and disabled people in Natchez on April 27.
