HARRISONBURG, La. — Brett Walsworth went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and Dylan LaPrairie gave up just four hits as the Vidalia High School Vikings defeated the LaSalle High School Tigers 12-1 in five innings last Saturday morning at the Harrisonburg Tournament.

Vidalia was originally scheduled to take on Avoyelles Public Charter School last Saturday afternoon, but the threat of inclement weather that day forced a complete change in the schedule — and opponents.

The Vikings’ game against LaSalle started at 10 a.m. and, at least offensively, it took a few innings for their offense to wake up. The Tigers scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and it remained 1-0 through three innings.

Then Vidalia’s bats finally got going in the top of the fourth inning and that resulted in a 10-run rally. The Vikings added two more runs in the top of the fifth.

Nick Melton went 2-for-3, Tristan Weatherly was 2-for-4, Adam Eames had a double, and winning pitcher LaPrairie helped his cause with two RBIs. The Vikings also ran the bases well as Tony Tolliver had three stolen bases and Xander Harveston had two stolen bases.

Vidalia (5-2) plays host to St. Frederick High School today with the junior varsity game at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.
