NATCHEZ — Natchez High School’s varsity baseball team picked up some unexpected forfeit wins over a pair of MHSAA Region 6-5A opponents that the Bulldogs were scheduled to play over the next week.

Natchez High was to host Wingfield High School for a varsity doubleheader today at Chester Willis Field and then travel to Jackson to take on the Falcons for a single game on Thursday afternoon. But the Falcons decided to forfeit those games, giving the Bulldogs three region wins.

Then the Bulldogs were tentatively scheduled to host Forest Hill High School next Tuesday afternoon, but the Patriots forfeited that game, giving Natchez High yet another region win.

That put the Bulldogs at 9-4 overall and 6-2 in Region 6-5A, assuring them of a berth in the Class 5A South State Playoffs later this month.

Natchez High does have one opponent later this week — Class 6A Jim Hill High School, which the Bulldogs will host on Friday for a varsity doubleheader at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs’ final game in Region 6-5A will be a home game on Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m. against Brookhaven High School.
