MANGHAM, La. — Vidalia High School had a few opportunities to bring home runners in scoring position, but the Vikings were not able to get the job done as they were shut out by the Mangham High School Dragons 7-0 Tuesday afternoon in the first game of a pivotal LHSAA District 2-2A series for both teams.

Despite being held to just six hits, Vidalia had its chances to make this a more competitive game than it ended up being.

“We’re still struggling at the plate. We’re not putting hits together,” Vikings head coach Michael Norris said. “A couple of innings we had runners at second and third, but we’re just not executing at the plate to get those runs in.”

Norris added that Mangham pitcher Mommin (no first name given) did have a lot to do with that.

“Their pitcher threw well. He threw strikes. He’s their ace and we’ll see him again Saturday,” Norris said. “We’ve got to do a better job of putting the ball on the ball. Too many swings and misses.”

The Dragons scored four runs in the first two innings to take control of this match-up. They added one run in the bottom of the fourth inning and two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Tristan Weatherly was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs, five of them earned, on nine hits and four walks. He also struck out eight batters. Brett Walsworth went 2-for-3 for the Vikings.

Vidalia (12-9, 4-3) plays host to Mangham for Game 2 of the three-game series Thursday at 5 p.m.

Centreville Academy 13, Lamar Christian School 4

PURVIS — The Centreville Academy Tigers kept their MAIS Class AA postseason chances alive with a 13-4 win over the Lamar Christian School Lions Tuesday afternoon in a District 4-AA game. No other information on the game was available.

With the win, Centreville Academy (12-6 overall) improved to 3-2 in district play. The Tigers play host to Lamar Christian School at 6:30 p.m. Friday. That follows the junior varsity game, which gets under way at 4:30 p.m.
