NATCHEZ — The suspect in a Monday afternoon shooting at the Holiday Apartments turned himself into authorities Wednesday afternoon, Natchez police officials said.

“His mother brought him in, and we commend her for doing the right thing and bringing him in,” said Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong.

Jehron Davis, 20, faces a charge of aggravated assault for shooting a man in the back following an argument in the common areas of the Holiday Apartment complex on Monday afternoon.

Davis, Armstrong said, was being held Wednesday evening in the Adams County Jail without bond.

“He will probably see a judge tomorrow (Thursday),” Armstrong said.

The shooting occurred in proximity to other residents, Armstrong said, including children as young as 4 or 5 years of age.

“Any of them could have fallen victim to this same gunfire, but these young kids can be seen scrambling for cover,” Armstrong said.

Investigators used video footage from Project NOLA surveillance cameras installed in the apartment complex to view the events leading up to and including the shooting and to identify the suspect, Armstrong said.

The victim is recovering at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Armstrong said.

“The victim is doing fine,” Armstrong said. “They have already started talking about a discharge date. He will need continued treatment, though.”
