NATCHEZ — Natchez Recreation Department T-ball players, coaches and parents enjoyed hot dogs, potato chips and Cokes at Duncan Park after they wrapped up the season Tuesday night.

The final game of the season was played between Bluff Farm Supply and Pizza Hut, and it was all in good fun.

“Each team had two coaches who worked with approximately 10 players per team,” said Fay Minor, program director. “The coaches are there to teach the kids about the game and to let them have fun. This teaches them how to be on a team with other kids.”

This year five teams consisting of 3, 4 and 5 year olds, participated in the T-ball program.

Willie Hutchins coached the team for Pizza Hut, one of the five sponsors.

“I coached my son in T-ball 32 years ago, now I’m coaching my two grandchildren,” Hurchins said, “one boy and one girl. We don’t put the players in the field at the positions anymore, we line up the kids across the infield even with the pitchers mound now.”

Daniel Varner came out to Duncan Park and watched his 4-year-old daughter Harley play every game this year.

“I think it’s good to give them a little taste of what it’s about,” Varner said of Harley’s participation in T-ball.

Kimberly Moore, mother of 5-year-old Peyton Moore, said this was Peyton’s second year to play T-ball as watched the game from the dugout.

“I enjoy watching my son play,” Kimberly Moore said. “He has been going to his brother’s games since he was 1.

“He played last year, and he became a better hitter this year.”

Ericson Perry, 5, who play’s for Bluff Farm Supply, said his favorite thing about T-ball is “hitting home runs.”

Grant Gibson, 5, who plays for Pizza Hut, also played T-ball last year and said what he likes best is “batting the ball.”

The five teams this year were sponsored by, Bluff Farm Supply, Pizza Hut, Sonic Drive In, Sports Center and Good Hope Timber all enjoyed hamburgers and hotdogs  at a cook out following the final game of the season.
